We’re celebrating Trustees Week and here at Andover Mind HQ we thought it would be a good opportunity to introduce you to some of the trustees that help govern our charity.
The theme this year is making a difference in changing times; as our external environment continues to change, we face new challenges. The positive impact trustees make at Andover Mind is invaluable to our organisation that is now as important as ever to benefit society.

Sarah Oakley has been a Trustee at Andover Mind for 6 months. Living in the Test Valley region, she has worked in the charity sector for the past 10 years both locally and nationally. Sarah is on our finance, risk and audit sub-committee, and has a particular interest in our carer support and dementia advice service.
What attracted you to the opportunity of being a trustee for Andover Mind?
This is a way to give my time to support an important service right in the heart of our community.
What do you like the most about being a trustee for Andover Mind?
The energy that comes from the commitment and ‘can do’ spirit of everyone in the organisation.
What do you bring to the role of trustee?
I am head of services for a national charity so I absolutely understand the challenges of supporting service users.
Do you have lived experience?
Like many families, we have cared for a loved one with dementia. The support of caring and knowledgeable people makes a very difficult situation easier to bear.
What do you do to take care of your own mental health?
Walking, and talking! I make sure to get outside every day.
Do you have any interesting or unusual hobbies?
I’ve taken up ballet – in my 50s!
