On 6 June 2024, 2 wonderful members of staff (Fran May, HR manager and Chris Lewis recovery and connect worker) completed their autism ambassador training with The Autism Ambassador Scheme for Hampshire, Portsmouth, Southampton and Isle of Wight.
The Autism Ambassador training aims to raise the profile of autism in the community whilst allowing ambassadors to act as a “change agent” by promoting Think Autism in their daily lives and throughout the community. Ambassadors will also be able to identify where changes can be made and to be able to signpost individuals to further resources, support and information on autism.
What is the role of an Autism Ambassador?
“Autism Ambassadors are spreading the understanding of autism to work and community colleagues, family and friends. Thousands of people, who previously knew little about autism, now better understand and support the needs of local autistic people, enabling them to have a voice. Ambassadors identify and influence adjustments to work processes and practices, the environment (at work and in the community), and support and recognise how people engage and communicate.” – Autism Ambassador Scheme by the South Hampshire Branch of the National Autistic Society
The Autism Ambassador training is yet another stepping stone to becoming the most inclusive and accessible service and workplace we possibly be, an environment where we become continually more educated and a safer space for all.
