We are thrilled to announce that one of our dedicated volunteers, Sue Smith, was recognised at the Unity Platinum Jubilee Volunteer Awards, held on 7 June 2022 at the Guildhall in Andover. Sue received the prestigious Unsung Hero Award, sponsored by Test Valley Mayor Councillor Alan Dowden, for her exceptional work with Andover Mind’s Ugly Duckling project.
Sue has been an invaluable asset to the Ugly Duckling shop and workshop, where she not only teaches new skills and crafts but also helps create unique products using donated materials. Her creativity shines through in her meticulous window displays, which have drawn admiration from both locals and visitors.
Tori Anderson, Andover Mind’s volunteer coordinator, expressed heartfelt gratitude for Sue’s contributions: “Sue’s dedication and passion for helping others is truly inspiring. Her ability to support and guide those involved in Ugly Duckling has made a huge difference, and we are incredibly proud of her achievements.”
The Unity Platinum Jubilee Volunteer Awards celebrated the hard work of individuals and groups who have given their time and energy to support various causes over the past year. The evening, which included a warm welcome from dignitaries such as the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, Mr. Kent, and the Test Valley Borough Council Mayoress, Cllr. Celia Dowden, was filled with networking, appreciation, and a delicious buffet (complete with “Thank you from Unity” cupcakes!).
