Trustees play an essential role at Andover Mind. Our staff and volunteers handle the day-to-day running of the charity, whereas trustees focus on our overall strategy and goals. They ensure we’re using our resources effectively and sustainably and doing everything we can to support people’s mental health in Andover, Basingstoke and Farnborough and the regions in between.

Trustees have a responsibility to oversee the following areas of our organisation:

  • Governance and strategy
  • Financial stewardship
  • Legal compliance
  • Risk management
  • Leadership and oversight
  • Fundraising and advocacy
  • Ethical decision making

With the above points in mind, it is important that our board of trustees can cover various parts of the organisation and bring a variety of skills to the table. It also means they can have an impact upon strategic vision, accountability, sustainability, expertise and networking and adaptability.

The Andover Mind trustees come from a variety of different backgrounds. Our Chair, Judith Davey-Cole, has held senior positions in public, private and not-for-profit organisations, including being chair of a national safeguarding board. Another of our trustees, James Brown, is an army reserve veteran and co-founder of a technology company, Sarah Oakley has worked in the charity sector for the past 10 years both locally and nationally and Lara Pletcher is currently a HR Director for an SME based in Salisbury, covering the Europe, the Middle East and Africa region. Lastly, but by no means least, our trustee Robin Taylor currently works as part of a joint senior team managing the services of two local authorities in Surrey and is responsible for a number of functions including: HR and organisational development; strategy and performance; business transformation; and environmental sustainability.

Because our trustees come with a wealth of knowledge and backgrounds, they can make sure each area of our organisation is supporting our region’s mental health to the best of our ability, using the resources we have.

Our trustees are all from the local and surrounding areas, so have a natural affinity to providing the best mental health support to the people in our community. This brings a personal and human touch to the board. We know Andover Mind is important to them.

Andover Mind’s trustees are our backbone, working tirelessly to ensure we have the guidance, resources, and governance needed to make a positive impact on mental health and wellbeing in Andover, Basingstoke, Farnborough and the surrounding areas. Our trustees’ contributions are immeasurable and, this Trustees Week, we want to shout about the incredible and important work they do.
