Did you know… we are a Mindful Employer!

In November 2022, we signed the charter for ‘Employers Positive about Mental Health’ as part of the NHS Mindful Employer scheme.

Established in 2004, Mindful Employer has a long history of empowering employers across the nation to achieve better mental health at work. As a part of Devon Partnership NHS Trust, Mindful Employer and its services are administered by a team of mental health and employment professionals.

In signing the charter, we committed to providing non-judgemental and proactive support to staff experiencing mental ill-health. We also committed to ensuring we are fair in the recruitment of new staff in accordance with the Equality Act (2010) ensuring people who have experienced mental ill health will not be discriminated against, and that disclosure of a mental health problem will enable both the employee and employer to assess and provide the right level of support or adjustment.

So, what does that mean in practice?

  • To provide non-judgemental and proactive support to staff experiencing mental ill-health
  • To not make assumptions about a person with a mental health condition and their ability to work
  • To be positive and enabling toward all employees and applicants with a mental health condition
  • To support line managers in managing mental health in the workplace
  • To ensure they are fair in the recruitment of new staff in accordance with the Equality Act (2010)
  • To make it clear that people who have experienced mental ill-health will not be discriminated against, and that disclosure of mental health conditions will enable both the employee and employer to assess and provide the right level of support or adjustment

We are proud to be recognised as a Mindful Employer as it aligns with our values and mission as a mental health charity. Helping to destigmatise mental health problems, increase employability for those who have mental health problems and provide them with more opportunities is fundamental for our charity.
