Here’s a little message from Harriet about why she’s running for Andover Mind:
“I’m Harriet, and I’ve chosen to run for Andover Mind because I think the mental health support they provide is so important. Mental health affects so many people, and I’m proud to be raising money for a charity that helps those who need it. I’m excited (and a little nervous!) to take on the challenge and support such a great cause.”
A HUGE thank you to Harriet for undertaking such an amazing challenge, we couldn’t be more grateful to have you representing us at this year’s Great South Run!
John is our business support manager, here at Andover Mind. John is running the Great South Run because,
“As an employee of Andover Mind, I have the privilege of seeing first-hand the incredible and vital support the charity provides to people across our community. Having been a keen parkrunner for the past 10 years, I jumped at the opportunity to take on this 10-mile challenge and raise funds for a cause that makes such a positive difference to so many lives.”
“After living in Andover for around 18 months between 2024 and late 2025, I joined local running groups, including WillPower2Run on Mondays and Seasons on Wednesdays. This helped me meet new people, as I did not know anyone in the area and was unfamiliar with safe running routes.
Although I enjoy playing football, it can be hard on my legs and sometimes affects my ability to run regularly. Running has become an important part of my daily routine. Whether it is a 5km, 10km or 15km run, I find it therapeutic and beneficial for my mental wellbeing. If I have had a difficult day, going for a run helps clear my mind and reset.
Running has also given me the opportunity to encourage others to get involved. This inspired me to start my own running club in Basingstoke, Just Run Local Basingstoke. Despite only being established for a month, the club is already attracting around 25 runners of varying abilities.
I chose Andover Mind, partly because I want to run the Great South Run, but more so because of the vital work the charity does in supporting people experiencing mental health challenges within the local community. Running has had a significant positive impact on my own mental wellbeing, helping me manage stress, clear my mind, and maintain a healthy routine. As a result, I wanted to support a cause that promotes the same benefits and provides essential help to others. Fundraising for Andover Mind gives me the opportunity to combine my passion for running with giving back to the community and helping ensure these important services remain available to those who need them.”
