Volunteer Opportunities at Andover Mind

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Andover Mind. Please see below our volunteering opportunities.

Please note that volunteer roles are available subject to organisational requirements, role suitability, and completion of the necessary checks.

Wellbeing Volunteer – Andover, Basingstoke and Aldershot

A Wellbeing Volunteer offers compassionate, practical support to individuals who may be experiencing stress, loneliness, or emotional challenges. The role focuses on supporting a member of the wellbeing team to creating a safe, welcoming space where people feel heard and valued, whether through friendly conversation, guided activities, or simply being a reassuring presence. By promoting confidence, connection, and positive mental health, the volunteer helps others build resilience and feel more supported in their daily lives. It’s a role rooted in empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to uplift others. A DBS check is required for this role.

Garden for Mind Volunteer – Andover

A Garden for Mind Volunteer helps maintain and nurture a therapeutic outdoor space designed to support mental wellbeing. Through gardening tasks such as planting, weeding, watering, and creating wildlife friendly areas, the volunteer contributes to an environment where people can relax, connect with nature, and find calm. The role blends practical outdoor work with gentle social interaction, encouraging visitors to engage with the garden at their own pace. It’s ideal for someone who enjoys being outside, values sustainability, and believes in the restorative power of nature. Own transport is required.

Ugly Duckling Volunteer – Andover

An Ugly Duckling Volunteer supports Andover Mind’s Ugly Duckling Project, which uses woodworking, upcycling, and crafting to help people build confidence and learn new skills. Volunteers complete practical tasks such as sanding, painting, repurposing old furniture, and creating handmade items from reclaimed materials. The role gives volunteers the satisfaction of transforming something worn or unwanted into something beautiful and meaningful.  It’s a role perfect for someone who enjoys hands-on making, sustainable thinking, using their skills, creativity and learning new things. We want every volunteer to feel comfortable and part of the team, so we begin with a six‑week trial period. It gives time to settle in and helps make sure the role and team dynamic are the right fit.

Reception Volunteer – Basingstoke and Aldershot

A Reception Volunteer is the welcoming face of the organisation, offering a warm, friendly first point of contact for visitors, callers, and service users. The role involves greeting people as they arrive, answering basic enquiries, supporting sign in processes, and helping direct individuals to the right place or person. By creating a calm, approachable atmosphere, the volunteer helps everyone feel comfortable and supported from the moment they walk through the door. It’s a role that suits someone who enjoys meeting new people, staying organised, and contributing to a positive, inclusive environment. A DBS check is required for this role.
