At the beginning of August 2024, the 15th Annual Powells Golf Classic event saw 22 enthusiastic teams participating, all driven by the spirit of charity and love of golf. The event was “filled with camaraderie, competition, and a strong commitment to giving back.”
Who are Powells?
Powells specialises in the construction of commercial interiors, they provide a one-stop service from structural new build & alterations, right through to final finishes. Over the past 39 years, they have worked with numerous clients across the retail, leisure and commercial sectors including; Cartier, Harrods, Four Seasons Hotels and Louis Vuitton, H&M, Wagamama, Abercrombie & Fitch and Adidas.
Powells were pleased to announce that the raffle and auction, accompanying the golf match, generously sponsored by our subcontractors and suppliers, raised an incredible £23k which will be split between three charities; Cancer Research UK (CRUK), Prostate Cancer UK and ourselves (Andover Mind).
Celebrity players were also in attendance; Harry Redknapp, Kevin Bond, John Crawley and Pat Dobbs graced the event adding an extra layer of excitement and star power to the day!
One of our own!
Our very own Libby Hilling, Andover Mind volunteer, was in attendance, playing the course to raise awareness and support for our Garden for Mind project. She said, “It was a fantastic day, great company with lots of giggles and superbly organised by Giddy, Niki Gibson and the team.”
Charity fundraising events, such as this, play a crucial role in raising the profile of charities, such as Andover Mind, by generating awareness, engaging communities, and attracting media attention (especially if there are celebrity guests in attendance!) Having Andover Mind situated next to national charity such as Cancer Research just asserts the importance of the work we do within the community and beyond.
