What is the primary care service?

We run a number of primary care services in different parts of Hampshire. The services run from GP surgeries and community hospitals in Andover, Basingstoke, Fleet, Aldershot and Farnborough. They provide you with an alternative to seeing your own GP, who may not be able to offer you the time you need to discuss your mental health. We provide half hour appointments to assess your mental health, give advice and signpost or refer on to other organisations and services.

Who is the service for?

People over the age of 16 who are experiencing problems with mental ill-health can use the service. You don’t have to have a diagnosed mental health condition. It’s for anyone who may be experiencing things like depression or anxiety, as well as more severe conditions such as bi-polar disorder or psychosis. We see patients with learning disability or autism if they also have a secondary mental health issue such as depression or anxiety. We don’t see dementia patients, although Andover Mind has alternative services that do.

What does the service offer?

The service gives people the time and opportunity to discuss in more detail their mental or emotional health.  We will listen to your concerns, take a history and discuss how you would like to move forward.  We can refer into Andover Mind services, particularly wellbeing, or to other mental health providers or voluntary sector partners.
