In September 2017 Andover Mind were awarded the contract to run the well-being service for Hart and Rushmoor. As part of our contract we undertook to provide services across the locality and, at that time, the service was run from a building in Victoria Road, Aldershot. Although the building was not entirely suitable for delivering the new service due to lack of space, accessibility issues and poor state of repair, we took on the lease in the interest of expediency, since no suitable alternative was available. For the past 2 years, we have been looking for new premises which better serve the needs of our service users. At the beginning of this year we found a suitable, well-located building in Farnborough, next to the Clockhouse roundabout. The building offers the type of flexible accommodation that is essential for a modern well-being centre. It provides a light, airy and welcoming space which is conducive to good mental health for both service users and staff. Its central location is close to rail and bus links and there is easy pedestrian access from the town centre.
Although we have now signed the lease, our plans for launching the new well-being centre have been delayed due to Covid-19. We are using this time to prepare for the move and will be operational from the new building as soon as we are safely able to do so.
We will still be providing services from Aldershot, as per our contract commitment, and are evaluating alternative premises so that Victoria Road can be vacated on or before September 1st 2020. We will be keeping service users and other stakeholders fully informed of our plans as we move forward.
Stanley Masawi, Service Manager for the Safe Havens at Surrey Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, said “We are committed to the Aldershot Safe Haven and our continued partnership with Andover Mind. Our services in Aldershot will continue to help people experiencing a mental health crisis or who are looking for ongoing support for their mental health.
