What Do We Do?
Counsellors listen to a variety of issues and concerns.
These might be – bereavement, loneliness, depression, unwanted pregnancy, miscarriage, feeling low, feeling guilty, loss of a relationship, divorce/separation/break up, fear of the future, regrets of the past, illness, pain, inability to work, lack of confidence, feeling different, being bullied, problems in the workplace, problems at home, no friends or family, isolation, gay issues, sexuality, fears and phobias, trans-sexuality, cross dressing, anger, violence, abuse, domestic abuse – psychological/sexual/physical, making changes, cancer, facing death, life without a loved one, rape, assault, facing prison, suicidal thoughts, dislike of oneself, living a lie, self-harm, money worries, sleep problems, drugs, alcohol, worried about another, anorexia, bulimia, being overweight.
Counsellors don’t give advice, tell you what to do, or tell you where to go next. They leave the thinking and decision making to you as with the help of counselling you may start to find some answers or a way forward for yourself in time. Counselling helps you to explore how you really feel about your life and to express it in the safety and confidence of the counselling relationship.
